Colgate-Palmolive :: Oral Hygiene Industry

Colgate-Palmolive has remained a leader in the oral hygiene industry. The company operates all over the world and has been successful in all markets. One reason the company has remained successful is because the company understands its customers and customer buying behaviors. This paper will discuss different segmentation variables for Colgate-Palmolive. This paper will also discuss the behavioral influences. Finally, this paper will make some recommendations for the Colgate-Palmolive company. Segmentation Variables According to Keller and Kotler (2009) there are four segmentation variables. Those four variables are geographic, psychographic, demographic, and behavioral. Colgate-Palmolive operates in four geographic divisions: North America, Latin America, Europe/South Pacific, and Greater Asia/Africa (Datamonitor, 2011). The company sells its products in over 200 countries (Colgate-Palmolive, 2011). Demographic variables include age and life-cycle stage, life stage, gender, income, generation, and social class (Keller & Kotler, 2009). According to Laidler and Quelch (2011) â€Å"CP’s consumer research indicated that consumers of the baby boom generation (adults born in the 1940’s, 1950’s and early 1960’s) were becoming more concerned about the health of their gums as opposed to cavity prevention and were willing to pay a premium for new products addressing this issue.† Colgate offers a wide variety of products that address total oral care. Mothers, Hispanics and people with a busy schedule are also a target market of Colgate-Palmolive. Women and mothers are generally the person that does the shopping for the family. Pictures of mothers and their children are in many of their advertisements. The United States has a growing Hispanic population that Colgate has begun to market to. The company has advertisements in Spanish and packaging in Spanish (Veiders, 2008). For people on the go, Colgate developed the Colgate Wisp. In order to better understand the psychographic variable the company has put into place a new business planning tool. This new business planning tool will help executives measure the impact of the company’s advertising strategies. The business planning tool will also help the company determine where they should reallocate advertising and promotional spending (DeSanto, 2010). There are many consumer behavioral variables. Many of Colgate’s products are impulse buys and are decided in the store (Drug Store News, 1900). The company realizes how important shelf space and in store promotions are. They are offer a wide variety of products to fit anyone’s needs.

Race, Gender and Ethnicity Problems in Education Essay

Education has faced race, gender and ethnic problems for many years. This continuous problem in all most likelihood will not be solved. Educational issues involving race, gender, and ethnicity of all schools will always cause controversy in society as long as there is prejudice and hatred. Education should not look at ones race. We are who we are because that is the way that God intended us to be. Many blacks are prejudice and have hatred in their hearts for things that happen in the past that this generation has no control over. I believe that we all are equal and should be treated equal in every aspect. Every race has a right to the best educational opportunity available. Admittance in to a University should not be based on race; it should be based on the highest academic grade averages. Blacks, whites, Hispanics, and any other race should have the same opportunities. In my opinion if some, one of a certain race should not take priority over academic standings. However, on the other hand many black are very lazy and want to sit back and wait for the white society to give them every thing on a silver platter. Please do not take this comment in the wrong way, I am not a prejudice person, several of my best friends are black. In my opinion, this is why there is such a social and economical break down in the black society. Blacks have the same social and economical opportunities as whites or any other race or gender; it is just a matter of wanting to take advantage of opportunities and being willing to help their self. I totally disagree with the fact that students that come from an inner city school get the worse education. My children go to an inner city school and they are very much up to state standards for their grade level. In fact, Social Circle scored in the ninety percentile for the 2002 state graduation test. Social Circle City School is sixty-five percent black population. In conclusion, race, gender and ethic background should not make a difference in the type or quality of education that a child receives. All should be treated equal. If a black child earns a placement over a white child then give them the placement. The same if the roles where switched. We need to stop making a difference in race, gender, and the ethnicity of students and treat them all equal according to their ability.

How to Calculate Commissions Using Percents

Percent  means per 100 or of each hundred. In other words, a percent is a value divided by 100 or a  ratio  out of 100. There are many real-life uses for finding the percentage. Real estate agents, car dealers, and pharmaceutical sales representatives earn commissions that are a percentage, or part, of sales. For example, a real estate agent might earn a portion of the selling price of a house that she helps a client purchase or sell. A car salesperson earns a portion of the selling price of an automobile that she sells. Working real-life percentage problems can help you better understand the process. Calculating Commissions Noel, a real estate agent, aims to earn at least $150,000 this year. She earns a 3 percent commission on every house she sells. Whats the total dollar amount of houses that she must sell to reach her goal? Start the problem by defining what you know and what you seek to determine: Noel will earn $3 per $100 in sales.She will earn $150,000 per (what dollar amount)  in sales? Express the problem as follows, where s stands for total sales: 3/100 $150,000/s To solve the problem, cross multiply. First, write the fractions vertically. Take the first fractions numerator (top number) and multiply it by the second fractions denominator (bottom number). Then take the second fractions numerator and multiply it by the first fractions denominator, as follows: 3 x s   $150,000 x 1003 x s $15,000,000 Divide both sides of the equation by 3 to solve for s: 3s/3 $15,000,000/3s $5,000,000 So, to make $150,000 in annual commission, Noel would have to sell houses that total $5 million. Leasing Apartments Ericka, another real estate agent, specializes in leasing apartments. Her commission is 150 percent of her clients monthly rent. Last week, she earned $850 in commission for an apartment that she helped her client to lease. How much is the monthly rent? Start by defining what you know and what you seek to determine: $150 per $100 of the monthly rent is paid to Ericka as a commission.$850 per (what amount) of the monthly rent is paid to Ericka as a commission? Express the problem as follows, where r stands for the monthly rent: 150/100 $850/r Now cross multiply: $150 x r $850 x 100$150r $85,000 Divide both sides of the equation by 150 to solve for r: 150r/150 85,000/150r $566.67 So, the monthly rent (for Jessica to earn $850 in commission) is $556.67. Art Dealer Pierre, an art dealer, earns 25 percent commission of the dollar value of art he sells. Pierre earned  $10,800 this month. Write the problem as follows, where s stands for sales: 25/100 $10,800/s First, cross multiply: 25 x s $10,800 x 10025s   $1,080,000 Divide both sides of the equation by 25 to solve for s: 25s/25 $1,080,000/25s $43,200 Thus, the  total dollar value of the art that Pierre sold is $43,200. Car Salesperson Alexandria, a salesperson at a car dealership, earns 40 percent commission of her luxury vehicle  sales. Last year, her commission was $480,000. Write the problem as follows, where s stands for car  sales: 40/100 $480,000/s Next, cross multiply: 40 x s $480,000 x 10040s $48,000,000 Divide both sides of the equation by 40 to solve for s. 40s/40 $48,000,000/40s $1,200,000 So, the total dollar amount of Alexandrias car sales last year was  $1.2 million.
